69 SEAMEN MURDERED
CREW OF BRITISH SHIP 1944 JAPANESE ATROCITY (10.10 a.m J LONDON. May 1. The Japanese murdered 69 British seamen after a cruiser sank the British motor-ship Behar in March, 1944, said the Minister of Transport, Mr. A. Barnes, in a written reply in the House of Commons. Shellfire killed three members of the crew, The cruiser rescued the survivors, landed some at Batavia, and detained on board 69. The Japanese executed them on the night of March 18. 1944. Mr. Barnes said those responsible were In custody and would shortly be brought to trial.
