SMOKERS UNCONVINCED

MINISTER’S STATEMENT SUPPLIES OF TOBACCO (PA.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. Christchurch smokers, unable to obtain their usual supplies of their favourite brands of cigarette tobacco, would not easily be convinced by the statement of the acting Minister of Supplv. Mr A. H. Nordmeyer that ‘ substantially the same amount of cigarette tobacco had been sent to Christchurch during April as had been available there over recent months,” said the president of the Canterbury-Westland Tobacconists' Association, Mr C. A. Lang today. Mr Lang took a reporter to a bond store where an assurance was given that supplies of three of the • most popular and best selling cigarette tobaccos normally distributed to retailers on April 16 had not yet come to hand. While deliveries had only been delayed, added Mr Lang, it was just the same as a definite cut for smokers who could not buy these brands.
