VISITORS ARRIVE FOR TURF CLUB RACES: 82 ACCEPT
The last of the visiting horses for the P.B. Turf Club’s autumn meeting, which opens tomorrow at the Makaraka course, arrived at Gisborne by train this morning, bringing the total of visitors to over 50. With those nominated by local owners and trainers, the total number available for the meeting is 82, and the prospects of the meeting are better than any held for many years. Tauranga, Te Aroha, Hamilton, Rotorua, Auckland, Wairoa, Napier, Hastings, Waipukurau, Palmerston North and Opaki are represented in the acceptances, and all the horses accepted for are now believed to be on hand, in addition to several from the East Coast. The Makaraka course is in excellent order, and given a continuation of today’s good weather the meeting should have a great start tomorrow. Most of the horses engaged for the fixture will be staying over for the Waiapu Racing Club’s annual meeting next week, which also will be held on the Makaraka course.
