OBITUARY

T.SR. ALFRED WHITE . OLD ORMOND RESIDENT The death occurred in the Cook Hospital on Monday of an old member of the Ormond community in Mr. Alfred White, aged 09. He was formerly well-known in the Te Karaka-Puha district, where he engaged in farm and station work. Mr. White was born at Taradale, and went to Ormond with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James White, who were among the earliest permanent settlers there. He retained vivid recollections of the events and personalities of the early days in the district. He was married to Miss Gcrtrudq Scaridlyn, daughter of a well-known Taranaki settler, some 40 years ago, and was widowed in 1943, since when he had made his home with his only son, Mr. Karland White, Ngakaroa, Ormond. In addition to the one son, there are five grandchildren, five brothers—Mr. James White. Haiti. Mr. W. H. White, Ormond Mr A. G. White, Puha, Messrs. C P. and A. E. White. Waipaoa—and three sisters. Mrs. J. ElWin, Pahiatua, Mrs. D. G. Beattie, Whakatane, and Mrs. W. A. Dever. Waerenga-a-hika, to share the loss occasioned by his death. The funeral took place on Wednesday. following a service at Cochrane’s chapel Tne burial was at the Taruheru cemetery.

MISS L. WATSON

Thera passed away peacefully on Tuesdav. Miss Lizzie Watson in her eighty-filth year. She was a daughter of the late William and Ellen Watson. In her younger days. Miss Watson took, a keen interest in. and was a great worker, for. St. Andrew's Church, Gisborne, and was a leader of Junior Endeavour and a Sunday School teacher. She also was greatly interested in collecting for mission work, and had her heart and soul in church work all her life. Of late years she was confined to her home She was buried on Wednesday at the Marakara cemetery, the pall-bearers being elders of St. Andrew's Church. Messrs. . Clark, Robinson. Peach and Maddock. A service was held at her former residence, 62 Wainui road, by the Rev. J. K. Fairbairn before the funeral. A cousin. Miss Florence M, Witty, survives.
