RUN ON BANKS IN ITALY
VALUE OF LIRA SLUMPS FEARS OF INFLATION (11 a.m.) ROME, April 30. Thousands queued outside the banks to withdraw deposits and get rid of Italian money as the lira plunged to a new low black market record of 2300 to the £, compared with 760 a year ago. . There were similar "bank runs _ in Milan, Turin and Genoa. The Italians fear runaway inflation which the Prime Minister, Signor de Gasperi, warned them on Monday was just round the corner. The Cabinet decided to prevent temporarily the Constituent Assembly discussing the financial situation to avoid further alarming the public.
