PROPOSAL SUPPORTED

DAIRY COMMISSION BUTTER-MAKING MACHINES (P.A.) WHANGAR'EI, May 1. The No. 1 ward of the New Zealand Dairy Board at its annual meeting approved of the draft proposals for the establishment of a dairy commission to fix the dairy price and to arrange for the marketing of dairy produce. A. motion endorsing the proposals provided that necessary legal safeguards were taken was carried unanimously. Seventy-five delegates from 1.6 dairy companies attended the conference, over which Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., No. 1 ward member on the board, presided. Commenting on the work of the Dairy Research Institute, Mr. Murdoch gave additional information regarding the Government’s purchase of two butter-making machines, both of which incorporated the continuous flow principle. The machines, which introduced a new process of buttermaking, had been tested in Switzerland and Germany. The object of investigations which would be made in the Waikato would be to see whether the machines could operate satisfactorily under the actual conditions existing in New Zealand.
