DAM INSPECTED

VISIT BY COUNCILLORS MANGAPOIKE WORK Representatives of various town organisations were visibly impressed on Sunday when a visit was paid by the members of the Gisborne Borough Council and other local bodies to the site of the council's new dam at Mangapoike. Led by the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, the members of the council, and representatives of the Cook County Council, Gisborne Harbour Board. Midway Association and the Trades Council inspected both the new dam and the site of the proposed dam to impound the ■waters of the No. 2 Mangapoike scheme. The dam is now assuming impressive dimensions, being 15ft. above ground level. The contractor, who pointed out the various features to the party, stated that had cement been available during the past seven weeks the job would have been almost completed. With the wet weather which could now be expected, the completion of the dam would probably take some time. The visitors all expressed their satisfaction at the work done, and the council was congratulated on its far-sighted-ness in selecting both the present dam site and the site for future dams to trap water for the population of Gisborne for many years.
