WEALTHY PEER'S DEATH
MARQUESS OF BUTE LONDON, April 26. The death has occurred of the Marquess of Bute, one of Britain’s richest men. His fortune once was reputed to be £80.000,000. He owned 117,000 acres and possessed many titles and estates, including Cardiff Castle, which has a gold-plated staircase. In 1938 he sold his Mountjoy estate, on which half the city of Cardiff is built, for £5,000.000. In coal royalties alone he used to draw £117.000 a year. He enlisted in the First World War as a private and all his five sons in the Army in the last war.
