CROSSING IN SHR. 23MIN. LONDON, April 27. A Pan-American • Airways Clipper flew from Newfoundland to Ireland in 5 hours 23 minutes, eclipsing by five minutes a record established yesterday by a 8.0A.C. Constellation. Pan American Airways announced that the record-breaking Clipper averaged 378 miles an hour, and at one point reached 518 miles an hour. The captain of the Clipper said: “We went all out when we heard that a 8.0.A.C. Constellation had broken the record. We had a tail wind of 100 miles an hour.’”
