BEATIFICATION HELD
MURDERER NOT PRESENT VATICAN CITY, April 27. Alessandro Serenelli, a convicted murderer, was not among the great crowd which attended S.t. Peter’s Basilica for the beatification of his victim, Maria Goretti, whom he stabbed to death in 1902. Serenelli served 27 years of his 30 years' gaol sentence and then entered a monastery. He had planned to attend the beatification in a monk’s habit, but changed his mind and spent the day in prayer and meditation. The girl’s 83-year-old mother attended- the ceremony.
