Regent.—" The Conspirators.” which begins to-day, is a spy thriller of the type that Wnrn»r Brothers do exceedingly well. All the familiar elements of a spy story are here. The action is set mainly in Lisbon, which during the war was n nest of intrigue, and those who saw “The Maltese Falcon" or "Across the Pacific” will not be surprised to find Peter Lorre and Sydney Greonstreet never very far away from the centre of it all. Hedy Lamarr and Paul Henreid are the stars of this intriguing film. Majestic.— “ Holiday Inn,” starring Bing Crosby ami Fled Astaire, and "Night Plane From Chungking,” conclude to-night. Tomorrow's programme will be headed by "Rhythm Serenade,” starring that favourite. English song-bird, Vera Lynn. The added attraction for the evening sessions is nil exciting and amusing drama. "Midnight Manhunt.” starring William Gargan and Ann Savage. This programme will screen until Friday, and "The Green Years” will commence on Saturday evening at 7.45. King’s.—Claudette Colbert can always be depended upon to do her share in producing lively comedy and “Without Reservation” is !no exception. Her playmates in this brisk and ingenuous farce are John Wayne and Don l)e Fore. The story is about a glamorous novelist (Miss Colbert), who has written a book about servicemen, and is on her way to Hollywood to supervise the film version. Repertory Society.—Terence Rattigan wrote his first play while at Oxford, and lie has been writing steadily ever 4ince. His latest comedy, "While the Sun Shines," is only now on lour in Australia and New Zealand. The Gisborne Repertory Society has selected this piece for a two-night season—on the race nights, May 3 and 5. The play moves at a rapid rate and with modern characters and netting the author contrives a series of diverting situations which hold the audience from the rise of the curtain to (he final scene.
