BRITAIN'S GRATITUDE
EMPIRE’S CONTRIBUTIONS FLOOD RELIEF FUNDS LONDON, April 25. The British Government's “profound gratitude” to the Empire for contributions to the flood distress fund was expressed in the House of Commons by the Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Attlee, yesterday. He said that the generous aid which the people of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and many other parts of the Empire had given during the war had been supplemented by another manifestation of practical sympathy with people in distress. “It is hard to find words adequate to express our feelings,” he said. “I know I am speaking on behalf of not only this House but everyone throughout the Kingdom when I say to each and all of our friends overseas, ‘With all our hearts we thank you.’ ”
