SCHOOLS IMPRESS
NORWEGIAN’S VISIT INTEREST IN RADIO “I think I am almost a little in love with Gisborne —and other parts of New Zealand,” said Mr. Arne Okkenhaug, who possesses the title of educational director of State broadcasting, Norway, to the Gisborne Herald yesterday. Mr. Okkenhaug, who is visiting New Zealand for a month, visited the Gisborne Intermediate and High schools yesterday and believes that they—together with other schools in the Dominion—are up to the standard of the best schools that can be seen anywhere. Speaking of the Intermediate he said; “I very much like the oppenness of the school, the lawns around it, the sun and the air and your good-looking children.” Mr. Okkenhaug left Oslo in May of last year in order to study the broadcasting system of other countries and as well as studying radio operation in other countries, he is gathering impressions of world education systems and various industries. He believes that much of what lie learns can be of help to him when he returns to Norway. Already he has been in Canada and the United States and now in New Zealand lie is seeing what he can learn from us. He is especially interested in the Dominion because, in many ways, it is similar to his homeland. He went to Ruatoria to-day to see the school there and to watch the Anzac Day ceremonies. Mr. Okkenhaug will return to Gisborne on Friday, and later will go to Rotorua to see something of Maori life there. He will spend a month in Australia on his way home.
