GOVERNOR’S SON
CARED FOR BY PRIESTS FUGITIVE IN ROME (P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 24. His son, who was an escaped prisoner of war, was taken care of by two Auckland priests caring for British fugitives in Rome during the war, said the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, addressing the children of Auckland Catholic schools to-day. Great work was done by both these priests, the Rev. Father J. J. Flanagan and the Rev. Father O. H. Snedden, and he was very grateful to them, said His. Excellency. Referring to the work done by chaplains during the war, he added; “We had nc more devoted band of spiritual leaders than the Catholic priests under Father Spring.. They worked night and day in the division and I am very grateful for all they did for us.” His Excellency, who was accompanied by Lady Freyberg, gave an address at the Christian Brothers’ College. He was welcomed by the Catholic Bishop of Auckland, Dr. J. M. Liston, who said: “We are glad to renew our expression of loyalty to His Majesty and I would respectfully ask Your Excellency to present to His Majesty our assurance of homage.” Their Excellencies also visited the Convent of the Sacred Heart.
