“THREAT TO LABOUR”
COMMUNIST ACTIVITIES AUSTRALIANS WARNED SYDNEY, April 24. Labour leaders have warned delegates to the Australian Labour Party regional conferences in Sydney that industrial unrest could cause the defeat of Labour in the next State elections. and that the Communists were undermining the trade union movement. The State Transport Minister, Mr. M. O’Sullivan, said Labour would not win the next elections unless it stopped industrial unrest. Australia had not yet felt the full effects of industrial unrest, said the Federal Minister of Post-War Reconstruction, Mr. J. J. Dedman, who emphasised that this was the biggest problem facing the Federal Government. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. J. S. Roseven’-, warned that the Communists were undermining the Labour movement and said: "Until you prepare to grapple with the Communists, the cuckoos in the nest of Labour, you are on your way out politically.”
