SEIZURE OF CARGO
HELD TO BE LAWFUL U.S. CAPTAIN PROTESTS BATAVIA, March 24. Two hours after an order was made to-day seizing tiu Martin Behrman’s Indonesian, cargo, Captain R. Gray, master of .the vessel, strode into the Batavia courthouse and lodged a complaint with the judge, alleging that the “present proceedings are fictitious, fraudulent and wholly unwarranted.” Gray failed to appear when the case came before the judge earlier. In his judgment by default the judge had found that the N.E.I. Administrative Institute handling war claims and enemy property was one entitled to claim and seize the Martin Behrman’s cargo, and that such a seizure was lawful, tie also ordered the defendant Gray to hand over the cargo to the Nei Administrative Institute and to pay the costs of the seizure and the lawsuit.
