FREIGHT SERVICE PLAN

AMERICA AND DOMINION REGULAR RUN POSSIBLE (P.A.) AUCKLAND. Jan. 30. The possibility of regular cargo services between New York and New Zealand being established by the Pioneer Line was mentioned by the chairman of directors of the United States Lines Company, Mr. Basil Harris, when he arrived at Auckland from San Francisco by the Pan American Airways Clipper, Mandarin.

Mr. Harris said the Pioneer Line, a subsidiary of United States Lines, had been operating on a service to Australia for over 25 years and it was hoped that a regular service would be extended to New Zealand if wool cargoes were available. It was hoped to have a Pioneer Line ship calling at Auckland and Wellington once a month. The company was mainly interested in wool shipments, but if other cargo was available it would be taken. The ships were of about 10,000 tons and they would run to and from New York.
