FERGUSSQN CUP SWIMMING HERETAUNGA SUGCESS Although they made a strong bid to obtain the Ferguson Cup, the Gisborne Swimming Club team which visited Hastings during the week-end was not strong enough to defeat the Heretaunga Swimming and Life-Saving Club's team in this annual competition. Heretaunga who won the cup at Gisborne last year retained the trophy by 18 points to 11 Gisborne team members gave an excellent showing, and the contest was keen throughout, the decision resting on the result of the water polo match, which Heretaunga won comfortably. The 50yds. Ferguson Cup race was won bv H. Holmes, who also led the Gisborne relay team into first place. The standard of the competitors generally was good many of them indicating that they were now approaching their championship form. Results were: —
