SUB-STATION SITE

PROPOSED CHANGE BOARD’S OPPOSITION “TECHNICALLY SOUND” Members of the P.B. Electric-Power Board yesterday expressed strongly the view that no support could be given to any proposal to change the site of the sub-station from which power will be distributed to the East Coast area. The board had before it a letter from the V/niapu Cou.ity Council setting forth the views of Te Puia residents in fa.-our of changing the sub-station site from Tokomaru Bay to Te Puia, on the grounds that this would permit the extension of reticulation several miles further north and also that European-owned land for housing staff was more readily available at Te Puia.

The chairman Mr. F. R. Bail, stated that the board could not support the suggestion, since negotiations had taken place with the electricity cqntroller and the choice ot the sub-station site had been completed. Any suggestion of an alteration of tbe site might involve the reopening of the general terms of supply to the East Coast and a revision of those terms could hardly be to the advantage of the consumers there. It was pointed out to the board that technical reasons governed the choice of the site. The greatest load on the system would be from the Tokomaru Bay works, and the site in that locality had been approved by the electricity controller in agreement with the board's engineer. Members generally supported the chairman’s views on the matter.
