OBITUARY
MR. EDWARD LENIHAN VETERAN PRESSMAN The death occurred at the Cook Hospital on Monday of Mr Edward Lenihan, aged 62 years, l'or many years resident in Gisborne and widely known and liked. Mr. Lenihan had been m poor health recently, but his illness took a serious turn only in the past few days. He was born in Australia, and after completing his schooling took up newspaper work in various parts of the Eastern States, later coming to New Zealand to an appointment at Hokitika. He lived on the West Coast for several years and enlisted in the First New Zealand Expeditionary Force at Wellington, serving overseas with the Otago Infantry Regiment. Some time after his return to New Zealand Mr. Lenihan moved to Taihape, where he was active in the Returned Soldiers’ Association, at one time holding the presidency of the branch. He was keenly interested m Rugby football, and was a member of the Taihape union management conimittee, and also followed athletics keenly. In 1929 he came to Gisborne, and was associated with the Tc Rau Press for some years He then went to the Nelson district for a time, returning to this coast to take a post with East Coast Motors, Limited, which he held up to the time of the sale of the company to the Railways Department. He was a keen bowler, and held the secretaryship of the Kahutia Bowling Club for some seasons, until compelled by failing health to relinquish the post. Mr. Lenihan is survived by Mrs Lenihan and one son. The funeral will take place to-morrow, following a service at Cochrane’s chapel at 2.30 p.m. The burial is to be at the Taruheru cemetery.
