FOOD COUPON SURRENDERS OPOTIKI’S FINE EFFORT Meat and butter coupon surrenders were well above the average in the Gisborne postal district last week, largely due to the magnificent results achieved at Opotiki, where 403 butter and 14,554 meat coupons were cancelled by the postmaster. During the week 513 butter and 17,875 meat coupons were collected throughout the district. Te Araroa was again prominent in the coupon collections. 36 butter and 1062 meat coupons being surrendered. Children of the Tikitiki School handed in 70 meat coupons to the postmaster. Although no street appeals for food coupons are now being conducted in the town area of Gisborne, a silent appeal to shoppers is made each Friday, when boxes are placed on tables in prominent positions in the shopping centre.
