CAR IN FLAMES

YOUTH BADLY BURNED (P.A.) HASTINGS, Dec. 10. Trapped in a well beneath a motorcar which suddenly burst into flames while he was working on it, a young motor mechanic in the employment of Thompson Motors, Limited, Karamu road, was badly burnt. He is Mr. Leighton List, aged 19, of Hastings street, who is suffering from severe shock and burns to both hands and face. His condition is satisfactory.

The petrol tank of the car had been drained and Mr. List was engaged in boring the petrol cap with an electric drill when the rear portion of the car suddenly burst into flames. It is surmised that the fire was caused by a spark from the drill. Mr. List was trapped beneath the car and received burns to his face and hands before he was extracted by some workmates.
