FRIENDS WITH ALLIES
JAPANESE CHILDREN
SYDNEY, Dec. 9.
In the midst of ruin in Japanese cities it is stimulating to see the happy expressions on the faces of Japanese children, said Cardinal Gilroy on his return from a visit to Japan. Cardinal Gilroy said they were most lovable kiddies and were being brought up with a feeling of respect and friendliness toward the soldicis of the occupation forces. His immediate impression in Japan was one of shocked surprise at the terrific damage done by bombing m the principal cities. Government buildings, churches and dwellings had vanished into dust, he said. Almost every Catholic institution had been destroyed, including monasteries and schools.
