DUMP NEAR SHANGHAI
PANIC IN CITY AVERTED
SHANGHAI. Dec. 8
One company of Chinese soldiers and a number of coolies are reported to have been killed bv an explosion in an ammunition dump as a result of a coolie dropping a hand grenade. The dump contained 20,000 tons of American shells and Japanese bombs and mines. , . The first blast at 4 p.m. yesterday rocked Shanghai and explosions continued all night, almost causing panic in Shanghai because it was rumoured that the city was under a Communist attack. ______
