Sleepy Fox Out Of Xmas Handicap Sleepy Fox was withdrawn from the Christmas Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting at 3.20 ’ p.m. on Friday.
Wellington Town v. Country Cricket Town scored 187 and 187 for eight wickets declared and Country recorded 188 and 128 for five wickets down in the annual cricket match which ended in a draw with honours easy at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday. the two days having been insufficient tor the strong sides to reach -finality. As a search lor talent for Wellington’s Plunket Sheild eleven, the match revealed no new performers .of outstanding merit, though it brought prominently before the selectors the oossibilities of a fast-medium, righthand spin bowler in H. B. Cave, Wanganui who captured five wickets for 56 runs off 22 overs in Town’s second innings The only batsman to reach the half-century was C. McVicar, Manawatu. who scored 32 and 51 not out T A. Downes, Hawke’s Bay. a fast-medium left-hander, took ‘ five Town wickets for 45 runs in the first strike and two for 58 in the second.
