LOSERS’ GOOD EFFORT

The final race in the Gisborne Row» ing Club’s Second Trial Fours series, contested last evening on the Taruheru River over a distance of of a mile, was won by> P. Sceats, strj, A. Scott, L. Gavin and P. Tapping, who drew away in the last few strokes to establish a lead of just under a length at the finishing-line. j!

Experience stood Sceats in good stead over the latter part of the course, when he quickened up his rate of striking and took his crew with him. The opposing crew comprised B. Hankey. str., B. Against a four which included three “old hands” they put up a determined fight, the boats see-sawing into the lead in turn for five-and-a-half furlongs before Sceats finally established his superiority. The second trials overlapped the training of crews for the President's Fours series, which will be rowed off. from the middle of next week over a course of one mile. P.B.R.C. PRESIDENT’S FOURS
