MARRIAGE BY ’PHONE
NOT LEGAL, SAYS JUDGE
SYDNEY, Dec. 6
A telephone marriage could not be a true form of marriage, said Mr. Justice Bonney, in a Divorce Court. “This business of going through an illicit pretence of marriage has its dangers to those who do it. Any person purporting to officiate at the New South Wales end would be liable to a penalty not exceeding five years’ gaol or a £SOO fine.’’
Mr. Justice Bonney’s remarks were made during the hearing of a case in which the divorced parents each sought the custody of a child of the marriage when it was stated that the divorced wife had gone through a form of marriage with a man in the United States by telephone.
