LIMITED QUANTITIES

WELLINGTON FRUIT HIGH PRICES PAID Only limited quantities of fruit and vegetables have been available in Wellington during the past week, and all varieties of fruit have been in extremely keen demand, according to a report supplied by Townsend and Paul. Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington. Cherries, in particular, have sold readily, as have all varieties of early plums. Nelson tomatoes are now coming forward more freely and values are easing somewhat. Gooseberries, loganberries and passion fruit have been placed to advantage. Larger quantities of flowers were offered last week, and the demand for seasonal varieties was met readily. Most varieties of vegetables have been in short supply, particularly new potatoes, pumpkins, cabbage and silverbeet, all of which have been readily placed at ceiling prices. Poultry sales have been well attended. but supplies coming to hand have been far from adequate.
