GREEK PRINCE’S CLAIM
BRITISH CITIZENSHIP NATURALISATION SUIT (11.15 a.m.) LONDON. Dec. 5. Replying to a question in the House of Commons on what grounds priority was given to the application of Prince Philip of Greece for British nationality, the Home Secretary, Mr. Chuter Ede, said that Prince Philip had applied through his commanding officer in accordance with the arrangement announced on February 28. 1946. whereby early consideration would be given to applications for naturalisation from foreigners who had served with the British forces in wartime.
Reuter’s says that Prince Philip entered the Royal Navy as a naval cadet in May. 1939, and expressed the wish two years later to become naturalised in order to make the navy his career. Applications for naturalisation in wartime were held up., but his name wps put forward through his commanding officer as soon as facilities were available.
