WAR VETERAN CRITICS
AUCKLAND MEMORIAL PROTEST MEETING HELD (PA.) AUCKLAND. Dec. 6. Another phase in what is becoming known as “The Battle of Auckland s War Memorial” opened with a public meeting in the Town Hall, last night under the auspices of ex-servicemen and ex-servicewomen’s associations. Strongly criticising the proposal by the Mayor. Mr. J. A. C. Allum, and the committee of Auckland citizens for the extension of the Auckland War Memorial Museum at an estimated cost of £325,000. the meeting passed a resolution demanding the election of a war memorial committee by a public meeting of citizens. The resolution also protested against “the action of the Mayor in personally selecting and nominating a planning committee and refusing at the particular meeting to receive other nominations.”
“The men who fell went to fight a dictator and some ‘yes men. The people of Auckland should have a say,” said Mr. A. Gunn, an executive member of the R.S.A.
