BENEFIT PAYMENT
POLICY REVERSED MEMORIAL HOME INMATES In accordance with notice given, Mr. J IT. Hall moved at yesterday's meeting of the Cook Hospital Board that the board's previous decision as to the treatment of age benefits payable to inmates of the Cook Memorial Home be rescinded, and that it be replaced by the following motion:— “That a sum of £3 Os lOd per month be paid to those inmates in the Memorial Home who are in receipt of social security benefit of £8 13s 4d per month, the payment to be made by weekly instalments to all inmates, and that in cases where an inmate is in receipt or a benefit of less than £8 13s 4d pel month, the amount to be refunded him shall be determined by the welfare committee of the board.” _ In support of Ins motion, Mr. Hau pointed out that the present payment of 9s 8d per week was insufficient to meet the out-of-pocket expenses of many inmates, who felt that the placing of £1 per week in trust for them was not a happy arrangement for people with a brief expectation of life. Mr. H. H. Barker seconded Mr. Hall s motion, which was carried unanimously. -
