The appointment of Captain J. Kankine as acting harbourmaster and pilot during the absence of Captain G. McK. Smart on annual holidays was approved by the Gisborne Harbour Board at its monthly meeting yesterday.
Those present at the monthly meeting of the Gisborne Harbour Board yesterday were: Messrs. A. J. Nicol, chairman, I. J, Quigley, M. J. White, R. G. Clare, L. Miles, A. A. Fraser, R. D. Dymock, J. E. Benson, W. T. Veitch. A. B. S. Steele, j. T. Gordon, C. Williams. C. Mills, and W. R. Clarke An apology for absence was received from Mr. M. Doyle. Dr. T. C. Lonie, district health officer at Palmerston North, who is at present acting-health officer for the GisborneEast Coast district, arrived by train yesterday afternoon. He will return to Palmerston North later this week.
Those present at yesterday's meeting of the Cook Hospital Board were Mr. M. T. Traftord, chairman, Mrs. E. R. Scott, and Messrs. L. H. L. Maclean, J. B. Williams, Hy. Cooper, S. T. Gray, H. H. Barker, H. J. F. Tombleson, J. H. Hall, E. R. Black, G. D. Muirhead and G. W. Armstrong. The appointment of Miss W. Cox as second tutor sister at the Cook Hospital was approved at yesterday’s meeting of the Cook Hospital Board. Miss Cox is the holder of a diploma in hospital administration, and trained at the Waikato Hospital, later serving at Auckland Hospital and later at Waikato and New Plymouth hospitals. Sister E. M. Daly was appointed to the post of home sister, in which capacity she has been temporarily serving the board. The appointment of Mrs. E. T. W. Cole as district nurse at Matawai was the subject of a letter of approval from the Director-General of Health.
