SEEDS OF FASCISM
DESTRUCTION URGED
PURGE IN ALL COUNTRIES
A statement issued by the International Committee for the Study of European Questions calls for a purge in all countries to destroy the seeds of Nazism and Fascism, states the Times of London.
The statement says that steps already taken would not be sufficient to prevent a return of the danger if restrictive measures were not equally applied to the activities of those who created the creed of national-socialism and thereby contributed to the birth of the Third Reich and its organisations.
"This applies to nearly 1000 professors appointed by the nationalsocialist regime in more than 50 universities to teach subjects such as racial and national biology, geography of vital space, the science of chemical warfare, etc. It must be emphasised that, if such men remain free to continue preaching behind the scenes the same principles as they supported for more than 12 years in the universities of tire Third Reich, all attempts to reeducate the German mind will be doomed to failure. “We also wish to express our disquiet at reports recently published stating that, owing to lack of prison space in one of the zones of occupation in Germany, 20,000 Nazis and members of the para-military formation S.A. are shortly to be released, without any further indication having been given as to the future control and re-education of these men."
Those who have signed for Britain are Captain Raymond Blackburn, M.P., Lord Brabazon of Tara, Professor D. W. Brogan, Lord Vansittart. Professor Keeton, and Mr, M. A. Chester Beatty, chairman of the United Kingdom Commercial Corporation. Other signatures are from France, Belgium and Norway.
