JAVA EXTREMISTS ATTACK ON A PATROL
SEVERAL OTHER CLASHES (1145 am.) BATAVIA. March 22. A patrol of British and Indian troops south of Semarang encountered about 100 Indonesians led .by two Japanese officers one of whom was killed and one wounded in an exchange of rifle and machine-gun five, says a British Headquarters statement. It added - "The Indonesians, who failed in the attack, were encouraged ■by the Japanese.” Near Batavia one Dutch officer was killed during a raid in which arms and ammunition were recovered from the Indonesian extremists. . Indonesians attempting to bring mortars into action at Bandoeng withdrew when engaged by British mortars. Clashes have also occurred in the Sourabava and Medan areas, three Dutch being wounded.
