REJECTED BY MINERS
(10 a.m.) JOHANNESBURG. Mar. 22. The Witwatersrand gold strike has spread to affect 12,000 men in all shafts at all mines in the Rand, except, for; some shafts at New Kleinfontein, Grootveldt and the Government area. The miners rejected the South African Government's terms for a settlement after their unanimous acceptance by the executive of the Mineworkers’ Union. The South African Trades and Labour Council pleaded support for the Mineworkers’ Union’s attitude to the strike.
16,000 WORKERS INVOLVED (11 a.m.) JOHANNESBURG, March 22. It is estimated that 16,000 gold mine workers are now involved in the Rand stoppage.
