DANGER OF PETROL
SPARE TINS IN CARS AFTER HOURS PURCHASES The danger to motorists who carried spare tins of petrol in their cars was emphasised by the president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), Mr. F. G. Farrell, in addressing Gisborne and East Coast members last night. . „ Mr. Farrell said that especially in hot weather it was very difficult to carry petrol in a container that would not leak. People would smoke or a car might go over a bank, in which case the occupants of the vehicle might be incinerated. This was one reason why the Norm Island Motor Union had made representations to the motor trade to provide a service whereby motorists might procure petrol after hours and on Saturdays and Sundays. “We do not seek to be unfair because we recognise that the costs oi operating service stations have increased. At the same time we think that some provision should be made in the form of a community centre where petrol can be obtained,” said Mr. Farrell. _____
