U.S. SERVICE AWARDS
TOTAL EXCEEDS 1,725,000 (10 a.m.) NEW YORK. March 6. The War Department announced that 1,725,344 decorations and awards, excluding Pui'pie Hearts given to those wounded, had been awarded to the army personned between December 7, 1941, and November 30, 1945. The highest award, the Medal of Honour, was awarded to 240, the Distinguished Service Cross to 4036, the Distinguished Service Medal .to 987, Silver Star to 69,027, Legion of Merit to 12,285, Distinguished Flying Cross to 124,827, Soldiers' Medal to 11,345, Bronze Star .to 340,510 and Air Medal to 1,162,087. The first-class privates easily won the reatest number of awards.
