FORGED BANKNOTES
ARRESTS IN LONDON FOREIGNERS REMANDED LONDON, March 3. Accused of having 1430 forged £5 notes in their possession, Gurnar Schjelderup, a Norwegian clerk. Ole Jacob Back, a Norwegian air force flying officer, and Pedro Gilot, a Polish tailor, were remanded in what the prosecuting counsel called a “Bank of England case.” Counsel alleged that the notes were made in Germany and the Norwegian flew them to Britain after buying them in Copenhagen. The police were waiting in Gilot’s London fiat when the Norwegians walked in. Back had 409 £5 notes in his pocket and 1021 were found in a car which Schjelderup had been using
