Bennecula was considered unbeatable in tho Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday, but the solid pace set by Derene. whom he chased most of the way, settled him before the last furlong. Derene looked as if she would have an easy win, but weakened nearing the post, and Gunga Din beat her decisively. Racket, last early, put up a solid effort to finish in third place in front of Palfrey and Benbecula. The meeting was held in fine weather before a good attendance. The track was jn good order.
