GISBORNE WATER SUPPLY
Sir,—Would it not be as well if those in a position to do so erected another tank on their premises, if tanks are available, this winter and be assured of water till we have a better supply? Such a season as this occurred G 5 years ago—and there was no main. Some people who could not spare water for washing bought more clothes (families in those days were large). My father had an underground concrete cistern built, and for the horses a well, in a paddock under trees. Our neighbour had a well in his front garden, and both he and father allowed a tankful each to be given away of the precious water, for everyone knows there was no town supply then. We struggled on against heat,' sand, flies, and lever and brought up strong families and built the line town that you see to-day. ‘•PIONEER.”
