BOROUGH WATER
DIFFICULTY PAST MORE WAINGAKE RAIN GROUND WELL SOAKED Rainfall recorded at ihe Waingake headworks of the Gisborne Borough water system for the 24 hours uo to 7 a.m. to-dny totalled about l.HOin., bringing the aggregate fall for three days from Saturday to Tuesday to 4.25 in., stated the borough engineer. Mr. G. F. Clapcott, in reply to an inauiry to-day. The Waingake Stream was in fresh this morning from the heavy overnight fall, and observations taken by the borough custodian at the headworks indicated that the surface of the country is now fairly well saturated in the catchment area. After the week-end falls of rain, the creek level rose sharply, but fell again almost as quickly as the ground absorbed the moisture and the run-off ceased. This morning, on the other hand, the stream retained its level after the rise occasioned overnight, and only a small proportion of the total flow was necessary to meet the demands of the municipal supply. “Everything points to the conclusion that, our difficulties are over for this season,” remarked the engineer.
