NORTH ISLAND TITLES

CHAMPIONSHIPS BEGIN ( p. A .) HAMILTON. Feb. IS. Teams representing Auckland, Manawatu, South Auckland, Wanganui, Taranaki and Wellington swimming centres are taking part in the North Island intermediate and junior swimming championships, which opened m Hamilton yesterday. The surprise of yesterday’s events was the defeat of the national 220yds intermediate girls’ champion. Miss N. Bridson, Auckland, by the South Auckland representative, Miss Timihou. The Auckland swimmer early established what appeared to be a commanding lead, but Miss Timihou finished strongly to win by a foot. In the second heat of this event the South Auckland champion, Miss M. Holman, was untroubled to win in time nearly ' sec. better than that of Miss Timihou. Results:—
