DECISION DEFERRED
ADMISSION OF ALBANIA
BEVIN-VYSHINSKY CLASH (10 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 14
The United Nations Security Council decided to defer consideration of Albania’s application for admission to the United Nations until the council meets later this year. A disagreement between Mr Ernest Bevin and M. Vyshinsky preceded the decision.
M. Vyshinsky asked for an immediate decision in Albania's case. Mr Bevin said there was a particular difficulty in connection with Albania which he did not wish to argue at the moment. On the other hand, he did not want to record a vote against any nation wishing .to join the United Nations. He, therefore, appealed to M. Vishinsky not to place him in a position of having to record his vote.
M. Vishinsky asked Mr Bevin why, if he did not want to vote against it, he did not vote for it. This caused such a stir among the delegates that the chairman, Mr N. Makin, found it necessary .to call the meeting .to order.
Mr Bevin repeatedly appealed to M. Vyshinsky no.t to force a vote at that stage. Finally, the council adopted Mr Stet.tinius’ motion postponing the decision.
