GIFTS APPRECIATED
“BITES FOR BRITAIN” DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM (Special Correspondent.) (9 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 13. Gifts of food sent from New Zealand to Britain under the “bites for Britain” campaign and which arc mostly perishable, are beirjg bought by the Ministry of Food to be distributed in the general ration. The money will be devoted to buying non-perishable New Zealand tinned foods off the ration, which will be distributed as gifts from the Dominion. This policy is being adopted by the Ministry with gifts of perishable foods such as meat and butter from all the Dominions. The decision has been made because of the difficulty of sharing equally the rationed foods among the public. It is desired to avoid the inevitable disappointment of one family receiving such a gift while the family next door perhaps might receive none. The New Zealand campaign is very much appreciated by the Ministry, since it provides extra meat and butter that would otherwise be consumed in the Dominion, as well as gifts of New Zealand food.
