SERIOUS POSITION
HOMEWOOD DISTRICT FIRES (P.A.) MASTERTON, Feb. 14. A serious grass and bush fire is raging in the Homewood district. 40 miles from Masterton, having been freshened up by the wind. The fire spread rapidly yesterday afternoon and seriously threatened Mr. T. Taylor's homestead at Beaumaris, the furniture being removed as the house was in danger.
So acute was the fire position that 74 fire-fighters were on the job, including the Masterton County staff and the deputy superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade. Mr. Taylor's house was saved, but the fire later swept oil towards other homesteads.
