POPE’S PEACE PLAN
NO ANTIPATHY TO SOVIET (9 a.rn.) ROME. Feb. 12. The Vatican official newspaper Osservatore Romano declared that the accusation by a Prague newspaper that the Pope had launched a peace plan according to which "eastern Europe’s problems would have been solved in favour ot Germany at the expense of Russia” is completely unfounded, The Osservatore Romano added: ‘ In 1939-40, that is to say when Russia was in the closest relations with Germany, the people agreed to transmit certain questions from German circles to the Allies relating to the Allies' eventual peace conditions,”
The transmission passed through the normal official channels. The Pope never added his own proposals, nor was Russia ever mentioned.
