SECOND EWE FAIR GOOD QUALITY LOTS VISITING BUYERS BID With a small yarding by comparison with the corresponding fair last year, and a comparatively small attendance, the second ewe fair of the season at the Matawhcro yards yesterday proved more successful than had been expected. Buyers were present in small numbers from Hawke's Bay, Raetihi. and the Bay of Plenty, and they helped materially to sustain the price level, which worked out about on a par with that of the season's first fair. Last year there was a yarding of 1-1,000 ewes at the second fair, whereas yesterday’s catalogue comprised only 5520 head. The quality oll'ered on this occasion was good, and the offerings were in good condition for road or transport driving. It was surprising, nevertheless, in view of the shortage of feed in many parts of the North Island and particularly the Waikato, to find the prices well up ‘o those of the earlier part of the season. The range of values is indicated in the following prices, the vendors’ names being quoted where available: —
