SUPPLIES DUMPED
- ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT NEW CALEDONIA LITTER (9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 30. A Republican member at the House of Representatives said letters from returned servicemen confirmed the wanton destruction of enormous quantities of surplus military supplies at Pacific bases. A letter from New Caledonia said: “More than 250 boats of all kinds, mostly in fair or good condition, have been burned. A large crane for months has been dumping each day material, especially new electrical equipment, into the sea. “About 1000 vehicles with thousands of tyres have also been dumped. Sedan cars’ in perfect condition have been smashed. Hundreds of motor cars have been dumped or covered with earth.”
