WATER ECONOMY!
ONE MAN’S SHARE Action ialccn to secure observance of economies in the use of borough water was reported on by the town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. In one case, it had been found that three iavatory cisterns in one building were overflowing continuously, and that in another house owned by the same person similar conditions prevailed. Moreover, this property-owner had a tap running continuously over a tub used in a horse-paddock. Notice to have the cistern faults corrected, and the use of the running tap in the horse-paddock discontinued, had been served on the property-owner, the town clerk reported. The offender had been warned that unless the position was corrected within 24 hours the water service would be cut off. Developments in this case had not been reported by the council’s inspector, added Mr. Jenkins. Members of the council expressed strong views on the disregard for the public weal shown by the property-owner concerned.
