FIRE HAZARDS
BY-LAW CONTROLS CARELESS HOUSEHOLDERS PERMITS TO BE OBTAINED The fact that numerous grass and rubbish fire s had occurred during the past week, and that the Gisborne Fire Brigade had turned out on several occasions to outbreaks which weie the result of carelessness was referred to
by the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, at last night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council. “It i s obvious that some people are not aware of their liability in respect of fires which get out of hand,” said Mr. Bull.
“Most people, I suppose, are unaware of the provisions’of the borough bylaws, which expressly forbid the lighting or any tires in the open air whether in destructors or not—without special permission from the lire superintendent.”
The council warmly supported the Mayor’s comment on the fire danger in the town, and on the necessity for applying the by-law governing the lighting of fires in the borough.
